Hartford – Disney Connection
Welton Becket (1902-1969) was a personal friend of Walt Disney and a wildly popular architect. His architecture firm is responsible for various well known landmark buildings. There are two buildings that I’ve enjoyed spending time in and not surprisingly, they are:
What I didn’t know is that this same architect was responsible for the bank building located at on the corner of Main and Pearl Streets in Hartford, CT. This building was erected in 1963 as the Hartford National Bank then through a series of mergers (Connecticut National Bank, Shawmut, Fleet and most recently Bank of America) became a building that no longer has a major tenant.
Its been rumored that this building might turn to condos/apartments, an option which couldn’t interest me less however now knowing its architectural history it does make it a tad more appealing.
